Deputy Surgeon General, RADM Sylvia Trent-Adams

Rear Admiral (RADM) Sylvia Trent-Adams was sworn in as Deputy Surgeon General of the U.S. Public Health Service by HHS Acting Deputy Secretary Mary K. Wakefield and Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy. RADM Trent-Adams advises Surgeon General Murthy regarding operations of the USPHS Commissioned Corps. She remains the Chief Nurse Officer of the USPHS.
RADM Trent-Adams has held senior positions within the HIV/AIDS Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Before joining the Public Health Service in 1992, RADM Trent-Adams was a nurse officer in the U.S. Army. She has worked at the University of Maryland as a research nurse and interned in the U.S. Senate. RADM Trent-Adams's clinical practice was in trauma, oncology, community health, and infectious disease. She serves as the Chair of the Federal Public Health Nurse Leadership Council, and the Federal Nursing Service Council.
